What is Tokyo Human Resources Fund for
City Diplomacy?
It is a fund established by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) in 2015 in order to support programs which help develop human resources that will play a role in mutual exchange and collaboration for the purpose of development of Tokyo and other cities in the world.
Before that, the TMG and TMU worked together for fostering of Japan-friendly human recourses who would play a role as bridge for between Tokyo and future, by implementing the “Asian Human Resources Fund” to admit outstanding students from Asian countries and regions to the TMU doctoral degree programs and provide advanced education which enables them to solve the problems common to large cities. Based on this concept, to increase the number of targeted cities, mainly sister-cities, academic programs for fostering of human resources serving as connecting bridge, in an effort of improving the quality of life of Tokyo residents and exploring city diplomacy for advancement of cities across the world is the objective of the “Tokyo Human Resources Fund for City Diplomacy” International Student Scholarship Program.
As of August 2016, 164 international students from 16 countries and region across the world studied at TMU under the TMG funds (including the Asian Human Resources Fund.)
